Letters Home: A Paratrooper’s Story recounts the experiences of H.L. “Bud” Curtis, a paratrooper in the 517th Parachute Regimental Combat Team from 1943-1945.  Compiled by his son, L. Vaughn Curtis, Bud’s letters detail in a very personal way the 517th’s preparations for war and participation in Operation Dragoon, an allied landing on scale with the D-Day invasion that forced Germany to abandon Southern France.  Bud’s words describe 94 days on the front lines without relief, and serve as a testament to the dedication and sacrifice of the brave men of the 517th.
